Access Health CT calls Connecticut home. We want people across our state to live healthy, happy lives. We want them to be able to go to the doctor and get the tests and screenings that will help catch health issues early. We want everyone to have access to affordable health and dental coverage for their families.
We also have another goal – to reduce health disparities in Connecticut.
Health disparities are preventable differences that make some groups of people less healthy than others. When people can’t find good health care or get sick because of where they live, how much money they make, how much education they have, or their race or ethnicity, we call that a health disparity.
These unfair gaps affect the whole community. We will all have to deal with more illnesses, lower life expectancies and higher health care costs until everyone has a fair and equal chance to live their healthiest life.
But there are things we can do to help.
Broker Academy Program
Access Health CT started the Broker Academy Program to try to reduce health disparities. This Program tries to address some of the reasons why some communities have more health challenges than others.
We provide training and support for people from underrepresented communities to become Certified Brokers. As brokers, they can help their neighbors and community members understand their health and dental coverage choices and help them pick and enroll in coverage that will help keep them and their families healthier.
The free Broker Academy Program creates trusted experts across Connecticut, especially in the hardest-to-reach communities. People can feel comfortable working with a Broker Academy Program graduate because they already live and work in their community. They are experts who understand the unique challenges many are facing.
Reaching our community
Access Health CT works with community health centers, hospitals and nonprofits to help people understand how important it is to have and use health and dental coverage. You can also find us at health fairs, farmers markets and community engagement events across the state. We want to make it easy to get information on health and dental coverage and to enroll, so we can all live healthier lives.
